Lesley Giles is delighted to be speaking at the forthcoming event on behalf of the British Academy of Management, “Does Leadership matter in today’s World”. This aims to discuss with policy makers, academics, and practitioners how to enhance leadership practice in a future world of uncertainty and disruption.
Leadership has a vital role to play in many aspects of work and life. Yet, research has shown that it is one of the least understood phenomena on earth and there are significant weaknesses across the economy as a result. Policy makers have wrestled with various initiatives to make improvements to management practices for many years. Further, the number of published research studies in the field of leadership is vast and spans several decades. Nevertheless, despite such a large body of scholarship, leadership still remains an elusive concept. The dynamic nature of today’s working environment, and increasing range of challenges faced by organisations, sectors and governments in a modern world, faced by disruption, has led to a clarion call for effective leadership by academics and practitioners. In today’s vastly complex and evolving world, leadership is required that can combat change, and realise opportunities.
Lesley is taking part in a panel sharing their perspectives on the importance of leadership and what can be done to raise management capability and share good management practice.
